28 June 2012 Journey to Greece (via Istanbul) 24/6/12
Had a nice supper (dinner) at about 1am on plane. First time having tawara rice with olive oil (I believe is Turkish delights). Turned out to be quite nice!
Slept for abt 5hours from 2am to 730am SG time. Very very tired!!
It is now 8am in SG time. I'm on the plane for about 8 hours already.
A very nice view from the inside. First time seeing such a view of so many stars and glimpse before sunrise. Local time: 3.08am
9am: breakfast time, egg!! My favorite!
Beautiful sunrise coming in AND I CHOSE THE RIGHT SEAT!! :)
Almost arrive Istanbul airport.
10.11am
Arrived at Istanbul airport, changed some euro to Turkish lira and bought. Turkish pastry with cheese, yummy yummy. But sadly no free wifi viable here. Wanted to subscribe to the TTNet wifi but it just won't recognize my number for verification code!! People use multiple currencies to earn money from tourist is so rampant here.. I'm happy that I made the right choice to convert euro to Turkish lira to avoid to be victim! :)
Need to wait 7 hours here before next flight to Thessaloniki. Feels tired but excited! Should I go starbucks to get a coffee?
Found a nice place to eat and rest. Learnt few more Greek grammar accenting rules in iTunes U. Got up the plane from Istanbul to Thessaloniki. I am literally only the Chinese. Ate nice lunch on the plane and reached Thessaloniki.
The plane passed by the halkidiki peninsulas. Feels so excited about it. Got a WIND card and secured a Greek number: +306934380226 with 600MB data! More than enough for my stay in Greece! :) but had hard time activating and reloading the card at first because of the language problem. Thanks to the local that helped me and the people here are so nice!
When i reached the hostel, I was shocked that the power socket has a large hole before lot for the wires, but the universal adapters I bought were too short! So I bought an extra European adapter and I managed to connect all my electronics for charging.
Met three housemates whose names were Christian from Germany, Anna, Joanna from Portugal. We went out to walk around from the hostel to the city. We passed by the conference place.
We visited outside of Agia Sofia, went authentic Greek dinner at Tiffany's. And before the day sets down, we went up to have a Pirate ship bar to have a chill out after buying breakfast at the supermarket. The ship set off and made a circle around the bay.
We went home at 10am and I was exhausted. We had some wine from the supermarket and after a short chat I showered and slept.
Looking forward for the Summer School tomorrow!
